Change Focus in Post

video editing Apr 30, 2023

If you shoot in Cinematic mode, you can use iMovie to tap and chose what you’d like to have focus on.

Kinda janky since you first need to rotate to get the full vertical screen to show, then rotate back after your focus is set.

I wish I could do this on my Sony footage.

" I'm changing the focus in post. I put my iPhone in cinematic mode, and then all I did was hold up this knife and rotated it around just to make it look interesting, and I didn't even have to worry about if it was in focus or not, or if the things behind it were in focus because I knew I was gonna be doing something about that later.

Now, if you look at the little screen, you can tell where I have tapped for focus, but I didn't end up doing that until after I had already shot the video. So I opened up an app, and I'm gonna show you exactly how I did that in just a second. But you can't tell The things that are in the little window are in focus on the big window.

So I'm gonna go from cinematic mode on the camera over to iMovie. This is the only time I use it. This part's kind of janky, but we gotta flip the video 90 degrees first. So all I gotta do is just tap anywhere on the screen using iMovie and it's gonna adjust the focus to that thing and leave a little key frame.

So even though I shot this movie earlier,"

It seems like you're exploring different techniques for adjusting the focus in your videos using cinematic mode on your iPhone and editing software like iMovie. This can be a creative way to add visual interest to your footage. By shooting in cinematic mode, you can capture the depth-of-field effect and make adjustments to the focus later during post-production.

To change the focus in iMovie, you mentioned tapping anywhere on the screen to adjust the focus to that particular element. This allows you to create keyframes and control the focus throughout the video.

Experimenting with different techniques and software can help you achieve the desired visual effects in your videos. Keep exploring and have fun with your creative process.
