Creative Camera Mounting?

gear Feb 16, 2023

This option used to be super popular for vlogging thanks to Caisey Neistat and Peter Mckinnon. While it’s cool to be able to wrap your Gorillapod around a branch or a stair rail, I wouldn’t recommend using it with anything heavier than a phone.

" This is a Jobby Gorilla Pot. These used to be super popular because you can bend them, you can change the shape of all this stuff, but they actually kinda suck. Now, one of the reasons people like these is because you can bend these into any shape, but they kind of get loose over time. You could wrap them around something and then mount a camera wrapped around a branch or a bar, and the only problem is if you have it wrapped around something, you still can't get a good angle unless you have.

That little ball head joint. The sketchy thing is, is this is just a phone and I can already feel like it's about to fall off right now, so probably not a good thing to do with any sort of a heavy camera. And if you just fold it up just right, it can be used kinda like a big selfie stick, but truthfully the same issues are there and it's kinda weird to adjust it cause it's got this big, bulky stuff that you're trying to put a good grip around.

Even so a lot of people love them and you can basically use it as a tripod, kind of like I showed you. On these two, which one of these three tripods do you like the best? The little pixie or the switch pod or the Jovi Gorilla Pod."

Each tripod has its unique features, advantages, and disadvantages. The Jobby Gorilla Pod is flexible and can be used in various scenarios, but as you've mentioned, it might not be as sturdy or easy to handle as others.

The Manfrotto Pixie is compact, perfect for lightweight cameras or phones, and it's great for traveling or vlogging due to its portability and ergonomic design.

The SwitchPod is designed specifically for vloggers and its design allows for quick transitions between handheld and tripod modes. It's a bit larger but has a sturdy build.

In conclusion, your choice would depend on your needs, the type of content you're creating, and the gear you're using. For heavier cameras or more professional shooting, the SwitchPod might be the best choice. For more casual vlogging or travel videos with lightweight cameras or phones, the Manfrotto Pixie could be an excellent choice. And for more flexible and creative shooting, the Jobby Gorilla Pod could work well despite its potential issues.
