EDITING: Split / Delete / Transition

video editing Jan 29, 2023

Here’s a quick run through of the most basic cuts and blends between clips, using a free tool called InShot App

This was Part 1.

Tomorrow we’ll play with the audio tracks from our clips in Part 2.

" I'm gonna use a free program called InShot to split the main track here and then edit out anything that I don't want, including the very beginning before I even start talking. So I was just hunting for that. Found it, I deleted it, and now I'm just gonna adjust that little handle that I can drag to the left of the video, and then I'm gonna find my next.

Point where I wanna split the video track and I'm gonna keep finding the spots that I want to cut out perfectly, and then eliminating everything else. So I'm just gonna move through this whole video, kind of previewing, listening, making sure that I say things the way that I like. And on some of the occasions, it took me two or three times to say whatever it was that I wanted to say, just right.

So I have a lot of dead air that I have to chop out. So a lot of editing is just watching your video's over again and seeing what needs to be trimmed out because it's just unnecessary. The more you can trim, the better. Unless it needs it, you shouldn't have it in the video. Matter of fact, put yourself in their shoes and don't show them anything that you wouldn't want to see if it wouldn't help you.

I'll cut it right where I stop talking, and then I need to see where I start talking again, and then chop out that section in the middle. Okay. I found my spot. I'm gonna split the track, then I'm gonna click delete and skip ahead to where I finally stop talking. And then now I need to skip ahead to see where I start talking again, and then clip out that little middle section.

And that's pretty much it. We just keep finding all the little blank spots, chopping 'em out, splitting the track, and then clicking the delete button. Just remember, and eventually we'll get all the way to the end of the video and we're gonna start coming in and we're gonna add some transitions and adjust them like this here for themselves.

Give 'em something they care about. So this transition is gonna blend from one clip to the next, and the more I drag that little slider to the left, the quicker that little blend is gonna be for the themselves."

It's great to see you using InShot to edit your video and remove any unnecessary sections. By splitting the main track and deleting the parts you don't want, you can create a more polished and concise final video.

Editing out the blank spots and trimming the footage where needed helps maintain a smooth flow and keeps your viewers engaged. It's important to consider what would be valuable to your audience and remove anything that doesn't contribute to the overall message or content.

Adding transitions between clips can enhance the visual appeal of your video. Adjusting the transition settings, such as the speed or duration, allows you to customize the blending effect according to your preference.

Keep up the good work in refining your video editing skills. If you have any more questions or need further assistance with your video editing process, feel free to ask.
